The Heritage Motor Centre (HMC) was shortlisted as one of the best 35 museums in Europe at the Museum of the Year Awards which was celebrated in Bursa, Turkey on Saturday 9th May.

Organised by the European Museum Forum the ceremony was attended by representatives from over 25 countries whose museums had been selected due to their "excellence in conception, innovation, approach to interpretation and attention to needs of the visitors."

European Museum of the Year Head of Collections at the HMC, Tim Bryan, attended the ceremony on behalf of the museum and presented to a panel of judges in a bid to win the "oscar" of the museum industry. After the awards, European Museum Forum Director, Massimo Negri, commented on the Heritage Motor Centres "noteworthy achievement in raising the public quality of its museum collections."

Visitors and the local community were the driving force behind a £1.7 million transformation of the museum in 2007 and the latest move in the museums mission to engage families, enthusiasts and the local community sees the unveiling of a brand new Mini exhibition at the museum which, throughout 2009 is celebrating 50 years of the iconic British car, the Mini.

Tim attributed this recent success to "all the staff at the Heritage Motor Centre. They have worked extremely hard since 2007, when the museum reopened. We are honoured to be selected as a nominee of these prestigious awards. Although this year we were not the overall winner I would just like to say a massive well done and thank you to all those who have helped to make the Heritage Motor Centre one of Europe's premier museums."
